Northern Isles Cruise
10 – 19 July 2023
Small ship live-aboard cruise on board the converted Norwegian rescue ship Hjalmar Bjørge, for nine nights with a maximum of ten guests, embarking in Lerwick, disembarking in Inverness. Relaxing “slow travel,” and simply the best way to appreciate the scenery, wildlife and culture of Scotland’s Northern Isles, providing access to some of the more remote islands and voes. We can expect some great encounters with seabirds, whales and dolphins, including orcas if we’re lucky, and other marine mammals. We will normally get a walk ashore somewhere each day, and with the support of sister company Skyefari we can also offer land-based touring in our 4×4 minibus. Each night we will be safely at anchor or tied up in harbour. There will undoubtedly be some fabulous photo opportunities along the way, but all levels of interest can be catered for and it’s not wall-to-wall photography – we offer the original “rewilding escape” since long before the term was ever thought of!
We aim to visit a number of islands in the Orkney and Shetland archipelagos on this cruise, hopefully including Fair Isle, Fetlar and Unst, but obviously it’s very much weather dependent and the exact route will be at the discretion of the skipper. We pass through the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness on our return leg.
This holiday is operated by the Northern Light Cruising Company with Chris Gomersall acting as your onboard naturalist, guide, and photography mentor.
